On January 1, Croatia took over the presidency of the European Council for the first time since joining the EU in 2013 under the slogan "A strong Europe in a world of challenges.

In the education sector, Croatia wants to emphasize the topic "Teachers of the future- teaching new skills". On May 18, the Council on education will publish council conclusions on the subject. Another event on the subject by the Croatian presidency will take place on March 24/25 in Šibenik, Croatia.

Conference on Internationalisation of teacher training

In cooperation with their Norwegian partner organisation Diku, DAAD organises a European conference about the internationalisation of teacher education on June 8/9 2020 in Brussels.

Further important elements of the Croatian work programme in the field of education concern the negotiations about the new programme generation of Erasmus+ (2021-2027), the advancement of the European Education Area (among others a political debate about the further development of European Universities) as well as a new strategic framework for union wide education cooperation "ET2030".

Negotiations about the EU research programme Horizon Europe with the European Parliament will dominate the work programme of the Croats in terms of research and innovation. The Council will also discuss frameworks for researchers and future jobs in research.

After Croatia, Germany will take of the Presidency of the European Council on July 1.
