CALL FOR TENDERS EMPM Summer Schools Europe 2026
February 24 2026
EMPM Summer Schools Europe 2026
As part of EMPM’s final implementation phase, a series of short-term Summer Schools will be organised in collaboration with selected Belgian higher education institutions (HEIs). These Summer Schools will offer participants a unique opportunity to engage in intensive academic programmes, gain international exposure, and connect with peers and experts in an intercultural learning environment. Designed as stand-alone enrichment activities, they further enhance and complement EMPM’s existing mobility and capacity-building initiatives.
The Summer Schools are designed to offer participants a rich and immersive academic experience, with the following objectives:
-
Provide Myanmar students with first-hand insight into European higher education, academic practices, and campus life in an international environment.
-
Strengthen participants’ understanding of the European Union, including its institutions, governance systems, human rights frameworks, and approaches to minority protection.
-
Deepen academic knowledge across disciplines — including STEM, humanities, and social sciences — through interactive lectures, seminars, and thematic study visits.
-
Foster intercultural exchange and international networking, creating opportunities for dialogue and peer learning between Myanmar students, European academics, experts, and fellow international participants.
-
Develop key future-oriented skills, such as critical thinking, research competence, and a strong sense of global citizenship.
Participating higher education institutions play a key role in delivering a high-quality academic and intercultural experience for Summer School participants. Institutions are expected to provide support in the following areas:
Academic Programme
-
Delivery of an established Summer School or course format taught in English and already offered by the institution.
-
Integration of a dedicated thematic component on the European Union, introducing participants to its history, institutions, governance structures, and societal frameworks.
-
Academic coordination of the programme, including confirmation of participant attendance and successful completion.
-
Organisation of enriching learning activities such as guest lectures, seminars, expert discussions, and study or site visits, where appropriate.
Accommodation and Local Support
-
Provision of student accommodation for the full duration of the programme.
-
Local orientation and practical guidance to support participants throughout their stay.
-
Organisation of local transport linked to academic visits and programme activities.
-
Assistance with airport transfers upon arrival and departure.
-
Support for Schengen visa procedures through the provision of required documentation in coordination with EU Member State authorities.
Certification and Academic Recognition
To recognise participants’ achievements, institutions are invited to provide:
- A certificate of attendance and completion outlining learning objectives and contact hours.
-
Where applicable, an indicative ECTS value or description of the academic workload.
While formal credit transfer or full academic transcripts are not mandatory, institutions are encouraged to ensure transparent academic recognition of participation.
If this initiative has sparked your interest, we warmly encourage you to become part of the EU Mobility Programme for Myanmar and help shape an inspiring academic and intercultural experience for participating students. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your institution, engage with talented international students, and contribute to meaningful academic exchange and global cooperation. We would be delighted to receive your application and look forward to working together to create a rewarding and impactful Summer School programme. Please email your proposal to empm@daad.de electronically as a single pdf file by the latest on 15 March 2026 at 23:59 (GMT+7).
