Slowenian EU Council Presidency
On 1 July 2021, Slovenia took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU as the last partner of the trio Germany-Portugal-Slovenia. The country will complete the jointly set initiatives.

The SHARE programme is the European Union's flagship programme in the field of higher education with the Southeast Asian Association, ASEAN. The European Commission, as a donor of the project, has now granted an extension of the project until the end of 2022.

The Communication on "Building a European Area of Education by 2025" of September 2020 announces a Council Recommendation for a "European Approach to Micro-credentials" in 2021. In preparation for this approach, the European Commission has now launched a public consultation. It is open until 19 March 2021.

The European Commission has rejected the association of individual regions such as Scotland or Wales with Erasmus+. In Switzerland, on the other hand, the universities are calling for the negotiations to be reopened.
At the end of February 2021, the EU member states agreed on a new common framework for European educational cooperation 2021-2030. This is closely aligned with the goals for creating an European Education Area by 2025.
European Union_European Commission
On 2 February, the European Commission announced the formal launch of the new EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe (2021 to 2027). Approximately 95.5 billion euros (in current prices) will be available for the programme over the next seven years - an increase of 30% compared to the previous programme.
