On 28 January 2021, the new Erasmus+ app was officially released. The launch of the app is part of the further shaping of a more digital, greener, more social and more inclusive Erasmus+ for the new generation of programmes from 2021-2027.
In its work programme for 2021, the Commission plans a global approach to research, innovation, education and youth in addition to clear priorities on digitalisation and climate change.
On 22 October, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the "Future of education in Europe against the background of the COVID 19 pandemic" with a large majority.
The study examines how ongoing university transformations in research and innovation can best be accompanied by EU support.
Council of EU Research Ministers
On 29 September, the EU Research Council reached a common position on the outstanding issues concerning both the draft regulation on Horizon Europe and the decision to implement the programme.

Building on the experience with European universities, the European Commission is currently developing a strategy on "universities of the future".
Virtual Conference, 5/6 October 2020
The DAAD organises a virtual conference to re-think global exchange in higher education on 5 and 6 October 2020. The call for contributions is open until 1 August.
The DAAD has launched a follow up initiative to the successful HOPES programme (Higher and Further Education Opportunities and Perspectives for Syrians).
The winter semester 2020/2021 at German universities starts later. The dates for the summer semester 2020 will not be postponed, but German HEIs are still closed, so lectures will be held as online courses.
