DAAD statement on the development of the European Research Area (ERA) Act

On 23 January 2026, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) took part in a public consultation by the European Commission on the development of the so-called ERA Act.

In its statement, the DAAD advocates for improved procedures to facilitate international academic exchange, commits to protecting academic and scientific freedom, and calls for a strengthening of EU programmes to support displaced and endangered researchers as well as research and knowledge security while granting institutional autonomy.
