Connecting Europe’s digital education community

The European Digital Education Hub (EDEH) is an initiative of the European Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027). It addresses the fragmentation of digital education across Europe by creating a shared space for collaboration, exchange and joint development.

Across Europe, digital education policies, practices and systems are evolving at different speeds. The Hub responds to this by bringing together policymakers, practitioners and researchers to connect perspectives, share knowledge and develop solutions that support a more coherent European Education Area.

Implemented by DAAD Brussels on behalf of the European Commission, the Hub is coordinated and delivered in collaboration with European partner organisations. In this role, DAAD acts as a central implementing and coordinating partner, managing the Hub’s activities, facilitating collaboration across countries and sectors and ensuring that its work translates into concrete outputs and impact.

About the Hub

The Hub connects policy, research and practice by bringing together stakeholders from across Europe. It serves as a collaborative space where knowledge is shared, solutions are developed and new approaches to digital education are explored.

Participation in the Hub is organised through a set of closely linked formats. Workshops and webinars offer space for exchange, peer learning and discussion of emerging topics. Working groups bring stakeholders together to collaborate more closely and co-develop practical solutions, recommendations and tangible outputs. Publications and expert contributions help share these results more widely and keep the dialogue within the community going.

Since its launch in June 2022, the Hub has grown into a large and active European community, bringing together more than 7000 members. It has facilitated over 70 webinars and workshops and supported more than 30 working groups and community activities, resulting in over 150 publications and expert contributions.

Key topics addressed within the Hub

The Hub covers a wide range of themes in line with European priorities for digital education:

  • Artificial intelligence in education, including pedagogical and ethical aspects
  • Digital skills and competences, including development, assessment and certification
  • Higher Education Interoperability (HEIO) and connected digital infrastructures
  • Innovative learning, teaching and assessment approaches
  • Data governance, privacy and trust in digital education systems
  • Recognition of qualifications and micro-credentials
  • Inclusion, accessibility and equitable access to digital education
  • Institutional capacity building and digital transformation strategies

The Hub translates its priorities into concrete activities through workshops, webinars and working groups, connecting policy discussions with practical implementation.

A key flagship initiative is Higher Education Interoperability (HEIO). This work focuses on developing interoperable approaches for processes such as admission, learning and assessment across European higher education institutions. It supports stronger cross-border cooperation and more connected digital infrastructures.

Working groups are central to the Hub’s approach. They bring together stakeholders from across Europe to address specific challenges and develop practical outputs, including guidelines, policy recommendations and analytical papers.

One example is the update of the Guidelines for teachers and educators on tackling disinformation and promoting digital literacy through education and training. This work involved experts from across Europe and ensured that the guidance remains relevant in a rapidly evolving digital environment. The process was coordinated within the Hub, with DAAD Brussels overseeing the work of the respective working group.

Webinars and workshops provide accessible and interactive formats for exchange and peer learning. Held regularly and open to a wide audience, these sessions bring together experts and practitioners from across Europe. Recent webinars have addressed topics aligned with the Hub’s priorities, including artificial intelligence in education, digital skills development, innovative teaching approaches, data ethics and trust, as well as inclusion and digital transformation across different education sectors.
