Overview
As a hub within Europe’s largest international higher education gathering, the pavilion will feature EU initiatives, African universities, and organisations. It offers opportunities for networking, consultation, and up-to-date information on African higher education and research. This initiative reflects DAAD’s commitment to building new connections and raising Africa’s profile as a destination of choice for study and research.
Background
The pavilion is part of the forthcoming EU-funded “Study and Research in Africa: Opportunities” (SRiA-O) project, led by DAAD in partnership with the Association of African Universities (AAU). SRiA-O aims to enhance the global visibility and accessibility of African higher education institutions, and to highlight Africa’s important role in international academic collaboration.
The pavilion, designed as a strategic milestone for SRiA-O, will build on a successful pilot in 2025. It will feature presentations and Q&A sessions by the following organisations:
- European Commission’s Directorate General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA)
- Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC)
- Association of African Universities (AAU)
- Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA)
- Southern African Regional Universities Association (SARUA)
- African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA)
- African Network for Internationalisation of Education (ANIE)
Together with the African organisations mentioned above, universities nominated by their Higher Education Networks, the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme (MOBAF), and universities from Ghana (funded by GIZ) will have dedicated consultation desks open to all EAIE participants:
- University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
- GREEN STEM
- Multidisciplinary Mobility for a Climate Resilient Africa (MMoCRA)
- Ho Technical University, Ghana
- Takoradi Technical University, Ghana
- Bolga Technical University, Ghana
- University of Mines and Technology, Ghana
- University of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ghana
- University of Media and Communication, Ghana
- Accra Technical University, Ghana
EAIE 2026 will also host the official launch of the SRiA-O project in a plenary session, featuring a representative from the European Commission, EAIE Executive Director Mervin Bakker, DAAD Secretary General Dr. Kai Sicks, and AAU Secretary General Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole.
We invite all EAIE participants to visit the ‘Study and Research in Africa pavilion’, to join the conversation and to be part of shaping the future of Africa-Europe academic cooperation.
