More networking, fewer barriers: EDEH workshop in Brussels strengthens digital interoperability in European higher education
The workshop was opened by Francesca Maltauro, Deputy Director at DG EAC, who emphasised the importance of digital interfaces and shared standards for a more integrated European education landscape. It was the first face-to-face meeting for the three working groups (task forces) on strategic approaches to interoperability, data models and APIs, and user identity. The participants used this opportunity for intensive discussions, joint drafting and direct professional exchange. During the workshop, the task forces developed strategic visions, addressed the further development of application standards and analysed existing challenges in the area of user identity. Finally, a panel discussion with several early adopters demonstrated how interoperability can work in practice.
In the coming months, the task forces will continue to flesh out the concepts they have developed. The coordination group, established at the beginning of the year, is responsible for linking these results. It brings together strategic projects and ensures that the work of the task forces is in line with the overarching goals of the European Education Area. This cooperation lays an important foundation for compatible systems, more efficient processes and closer networking between European universities. The long-term goal is to help ensure that students benefit from seamless digital processes, clear standards and fewer administrative hurdles in the future.
